Corleone Corleone the European Parliament in Brussels


Opened in Brussels, the exhibition of the painter Gaetano Porcasi on the theme of painting anti-mafia. The exhibition's honorary citizen of Corleone Spinelli has been set up in the wing of the European Parliament in Brussels. The twelve paintings, from the laboratory della legalità di Corleone, fanno da cornice al convegno “The fight against organized crime and mafias: S&D proposals for a EU global strategy” promosso ed organizzato dal gruppo parlamentare Socialists & Democrats che si terrà fino ad oggi nella prestigiosa sede europea. Promotore dell’evento l’europarlamentare Rosario Crocetta che ha chiamato a raccolta a Bruxelles tutte le associazioni impegnate contro la mafia; fra queste presenti la Cooperativa lavoro e non solo ed il Laboratorio della legalità di Corleone. Al convegno hanno partecipato il Procuratore nazionale antimafia dottor Piero Grasso, gli Eurodeputati Rita Borsellino e Davide Sassoli ed il Presidente della Commissione regionale antimafia Lillo Speziale. The occasion was a first major international debate on the issue of policies of intervention in the fight against mafia and new types of criminal systems. The size of the Mafia, as found by reading the works presented during the seminar, requires a greater level of cooperation between institutions and organizations actively working in the area. Corleone, a place ¬ symbol of fight against the mafia in Europe, has been the focus of an extensive examination of type, a model of social management of confiscated property. Appreciation was expressed by the participants made use of the property confiscated by the city of Corleone, to date, using one hundred percent of assets allocated.
"The paintings of Porcasi in Brussels - said the Mayor of Corleone Nino Iannazzo spoke at the conference - are a tangible sign of change and of Corleone in Sicily today that are able to export the positive image of our town and the change we are all together regardless of political affiliation, bringing forward. " During his speech, the Mayor also stressed the importance of a European approach to fighting organized crime today, to be effective and operational, can only be structured according to an international and globalized. The meeting enabled the European Laboratory of Legality to weave new and interesting relationships with other professionals.
